1. General principles for selection of emulsifiers
There are many kinds of surfactants, and in many surfactants, it is necessary to select a suitable emulsifier to apply to practical production. Attention has always been given to the selection of emulsifiers. The selection of emulsifiers must not only take into account technical effects (less amount, strong emulsifying power, If the system is stable, we must also pay attention to economic effects (ie, low prices and abundant sources), otherwise we will lose its use value. So far, there is no theory to know that the emulsifier that achieves the desired emulsification is ideal. Therefore, from a technical point of view, the most reliable method for obtaining effective emulsifiers is to conduct experiments through actual systems. At present, the HLB value method has considerable reference value for selecting emulsifiers. Although it is not very ideal, at least some blindness can be avoided. Therefore, the possibility of finding suitable emulsifiers is relatively high.
The HLB value method is to select the emulsifier to find out the required HLB value of the emulsified body according to manual or experiment, and then select one or more than two series of compound surfactant as emulsifier according to the additiveness of the surfactant. , so that it is close to or equal to the required HLB value of the emulsified body, and then these emulsifiers are verified through specific experiments to find the emulsifier with the best emulsifying effect.
In addition to considering the HLB value, the following factors have to be taken into consideration when choosing a dispersant rubber emulsifier:
1) The affinity of emulsifier and rosin. It is required that the non-polar part of the emulsifier and the structure of the rosin be as similar as possible, so that the affinity is strong, the dispersion effect is good, the amount is small, and the effect is high.
2) Affinity of dispersant and dispersion medium water. An ideal emulsifier not only has a strong affinity with oil, but also has a strong affinity with the aqueous phase, but in fact it is impossible to take care of both, and the emulsifier with a small HLB value and a large HLB value is often used. Mixed use of compound emulsifiers, so the effect is better.
3) The effect of emulsifiers on the electrical properties of the dispersion tape. Emulsion charge is conducive to stability, the choice of emulsifier should consider whether the ionic and disperse gel with the same charge, otherwise it will cause the charge to neutralize the emulsion stability.
4) It is necessary to take into consideration the special uses and special requirements of the emulsion. If the dispersible rosin is prepared, the sizing process conditions must also be considered and the foam cannot be too large.
In short, except for referring to relevant data, emulsifier selection is mainly based on experience, taking into account economic benefits.

2. Selection of Emulsifier for Dispersing Rosin Adhesive
The selection of emulsifiers for disperse rosin in addition to the conventional methods must also take into account the specificity of the preparation process of the dispersible rosin gum, ie, the preparation of a dispersion product using an emulsification process. When selecting the emulsifier, it is necessary to satisfy the requirements of the interfacial properties of the liquid rosin during emulsification, and also to meet the requirements of the interfacial property after cooling to become a rosin solid, that is, to make the liquid rosin sufficiently emulsified into fine particles, and to ensure that After cooling, the rosin becomes solid particles and cannot be condensed to ensure the relative stability of the dispersed rosin gum system.
Disperse Rosin is an O/W emulsion. To select the emulsifier with a larger HLB value, it is also necessary to consider the formation and stability of the double layer on the dissipated rosin interface.
The surfactant used for preparing the dispersible rosin should have the following three conditions. First, the preparation process has good emulsifying properties, can make the rosin emulsified into the smallest droplets; second, it has excellent dispersion properties after cooling, making the rosin The stability is kept with the smallest particles. Third, the addition of the surfactant does not adversely affect the use of the dispersible rosin gum, ie, it does not reduce the sizing effect of the dispersible rosin.
The process of preparing the dispersible rosin is firstly an emulsification process, i.e. preparation of the emulsified rosin prior to cooling, and emulsification of the rosin until it becomes dispersible rosin after cooling. Only when the required HLB value of the rosin emulsification and the HLB value of the emulsifier are equal, a good performance of the emulsified rosin can be obtained.
When the emulsion rosin is prepared, it becomes dispersible rosin upon cooling, and to maintain the stability of the dispersible rosin, the required surfactant HLB value and emulsion rosin are different. Therefore, there is another need for an HLB surfactant. Only these two surfactants can be combined to produce a good dispersion of rosin.
At the same time, since the temperature of the rosin liquid is higher when the surfactant is added, the surfactant must also tolerate a certain temperature. When the high-temperature rosin is added, it cannot be dispersed nor can it change the performance of the surfactant. In addition, the dispersible rosin is mainly not used as an internal sizing agent in paper-making pulp. The purpose of sizing is mainly to improve paper water resistance, and the surfactant itself has a hydrophilic group, which will increase the paper hydrophilicity and reduce the sizing effect. . Therefore, the amount of surfactant must be moderate. Lastly, the surfactant foaming property is small, otherwise, the dispersible rosin gum is used to make the papermaking process unable to perform normally because the foam is too large.
